Character Comparison

For this week's homework, you will select two characters from The Outsiders. You will write a comparison of these characters. Remember, comparison is how they are alike. The comparison will be complete and will use specific details from the novel in a well-developed paragraph to show they ways you think the characters are alike.

  1. Ponyboy and Johnny

I think that ponyboy and johnny are alike because they are both "soft"(sensitive). For instance, when johnny stabbed bob, johnny was in shock for days, and he doesnt like to talk about it. When ponyboy feels hurt or scared he hides his feelings so that he isn't called soft.

  2. Two characters from The Outsiders that I think are alike are Ponyboy and Johnny. One reason that makes me think this is that Ponyboy and Johnny both have troubled families. Johnny's parents are mean to him and could care less about him, and Ponyboy's parents died in a car wreck and he lives with his two brothers. Another fact that led me to this conclusion is that Johnny and Ponyboy are both "different from the rest of the gang" as Johnny said; both of them, are quieter, in a way that no one else really understands.

  3. I'd like to compare Ponyboy and Sodapop. To the many similarities between the 2 brothers, one is that they're both (for the most part) calm and laid-back. Another similarity is that the 2 are very close to the gang. Also, they both hate each and every one of the Socs. Futhermore, they both have someone the deeply care for (Pony-Johnny; Soda-Mickey Mouse).

The characters Darry and Dally from "The Outsiders" are similar in many ways. Darry and Dally are similar in the ways in how they are both "hardened" people. They also are both similar in how they can act in important situations.

  6. The two characters I pick are ponyboy and sodapop. One way sodapop and pony are alike is by how they look alike and how. In the bokk it says people can tell he's sodas brother and they both feel like crying at times.

  8. PonyBoy is the same as the Jonny because they both are the good members in the gang and also the two of them are alike they know what’s right and also they know when to back away from trouble when they need to. They both knew that they needed to turn them self’s in from the cops.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Two charecters from "The Outsiders" that are alike are Ponyboy and Darry. Both Darry and Ponyboy for one, like chocolate cake for breakfast. Also, both Ponyboy and Darry are alike because for one both care about their grades and are good at school. Both Ponyboy and Darry want or wanted to be sucsessful in life and go to college. Darry and Ponyboy also both don't like to often show their feelings in front of people, but the two of them feel things and are sensitive. That is how Ponyboy and Darry are alilke.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think Pony Boy and Johnny are similiar because they have a lot of similiar thought like don't travel on the street alone, and they are the two that get jumped the most. Pony Boy and Johnny are the most scared ones of the gang.

  11. In the story "The Out Siders", Ponyboy and Johnny are best friends and they are Greasers. Pony and Johnny are alike in many ways. One way they are alike is that they both have the same personality, and they both feel the same ways in most things in their lives, like they both dont really like their family life in their house hold. Thet both like to smoke, and they are both Greasers.

im comparing pony boy and jhonny.pony boy and jhonny are simmalar cause they have simmalar lives with there parents cause they dont have them or there just plainly bad.there like brothers cause there simalar they dont talk they keep there mouths shut.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Darry and Soda Pop are alike they both care for Ponyboy. They also are good hearted. There very good leaders. There also my favorite character.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dally and Ponyboy are alike. Dally and ponyboy are alike because they are both becoming mature. Ponyboy and Dally are also alike because they both have strong hatrid for the Socs. Dally and Ponyboy are alike because they both think of others rather then themselves, for example when Dally helped Ponyboy by hitting the fire on his back. That is why Ponyboy and Dally are alike.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The two characters from The Outsiders that I choose to compare are Dally and Sodapop .One way that Dally and Sodapop are similar is that both of them have your back. For example when Ponyboy gets in trouble by Darry, Sodapop always tells Darry to calm down and stuff like that. And Dally for example helped Ponyboy and Johnny when Darry slapped Ponyboy. Furthermore Dally and Sodapop make the gang laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  16. In the book "The Outsiders", Ponyboy and Sodapop are similar in many ways. One way they are similar is that they both had hard lives since their parents died. Another similarity is that they both have the same eating habits, like they both like chocolate. One last similarity is that they both have wanted something before,Ponyboy wanted to run away and Sodapop. wanted a horse.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I will be comparing Ponyboy and Darry. Ponyboy is very different form Darry Ponyboy is much nicer then Darry. Darry is the strike one out of the cuirtes brothers (Soadpop, Ponyboy, and Darry.) Ponyboy reads and Darry doesn’t. Darry will rather work all day then read book or go to see a move. Darry is hard working. Sometimes ponyboy doesn’t use his brain to do things.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Characters in The Outsiders by S.E Hinton have similarities. Pony and Dary are one of those character pairs. They are similar in the fact that they both have their responsibilities. Dary must take care of both his brothers, Soda and Pony, works two jobs, keeps them all together, and he also needs to help them stay alive, with the problem of the socs. Pony's responsibilities lie in the fact that he took care of Johnny, or he cared for him. This responsibility may seem to lie in the hands of Johnny since he's older, but no. Pony must watch Johnny ever since he got jumped by those socs. This is how Dary and Pony are alike.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jonny and Ponyboy are alike. They both are really young "hoods”. They both understand how the other feels without a word.
Jonny and Pony both know what it’s like getting jumped by the socs.Jonny and Pony are differnt.Jonny likes being beat; Ponny hates it he ran away when darie hit him. Jonny parents are negative and don't care if or when he comes home. The only time that Jonnys is notice at home is when his dad is beating him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think that Johnny and Dallas have similarities.one of their similarities is their family, both characters get abuse physically and verbally by their parents. In "The outsiders"It says that johnny often opts to go anywhere but home. Both characters did not know what love was till they got in the gang. Dallas living proof that one can survive without parent and family.Thats some of Johnny and Dallas similarities.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think Johnny and Pony are most alike in the book “The Outsiders.” Pony and Johnny are most alike for one reason is because they are both quiet. Johnny is quiet because he is scared of his own shadow, and doesn’t want to get into some kind of fight. Pony is quiet because he would prefer be in school or watch a sunset, than getting into a fight or robbing a store. Pony and Johnny are also alike because they are both are the only ones who understand each other. Johnny and Pony understand each other because they both nothing like anyone else in the gang. They go to each other and tell each other things that the rest of the greasers would burst out in laughter if they heard it. Like in the lot Johnny was telling Pony he likes it when his dad hits him, so he knows he’s there.

  24. In the book The Outsiders some characters are very alike. I found similarities between two seemingly different characters, one a soc and the other a greaser. These two characters were Two-Bit and Marcia. One similarity I noticed between the two is that they had the same sense of humor, like when they were at the drive in they immediately started joking about how Johnny and Pony could ever pick up girls like Cherry and Marcia.Another similarity between the two is that they both have the same care free outlook on the world. One final similarity between the two is that they are both a little quirky, even Ponyboy said they both were both in their own little worlds making jokes only they would understand. Those are two characters I thought were similar. I chose them because I wanted to show that even though each character came from a different background and lifestyle their personalities were the same.

  26. Ponyboy and Johnny are alike in the book "The Outsiders". One resason is they are both Greasers. Another resaon is that they are both responsible for their actions. For example, when the church was on fire they thought it was there falut since they were smoking, so both Ponyboy and Johnny went into the church to save the childeren no matter what would happen to them. Finally, both characteres listen to their number one rule, stick together and don't get caught.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Two-Bit and Soda are alike in some ways. One way is that they both make wise cracks and talk a lot. Although, Two-Bit does it more. Another way they are similar is that they both spend a lot of time with Pony Boy. Two-Bit takes him along with him to a lot of places and Soda is his brother so it's a given that they spend a lot of time together. Finally, they both like to fight. They have different reasons, but they both like it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The two characters that I chose were the grease, Ponyboy Curtis, and the soc, Cherry Valence.these two characters are alike in the way they see things. For example, as Ponyboy described in chapter 9, he would fight anytime, anywhere but he hates to fight and Cherry hates fighting no matter what and will break up any fight between greaser and soc. They also both think that this boundry between the greasers and the socs is crazy. A symbolic way of showing that is that the greasers and the socs all watch the same sunset which was mentioned many times throughout the book. Cherry and Ponyboy are very much alike in feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think that the two characters that are the same in “The Outsiders” are Darry and Dally. In Darry’s childhood he has suffered many big problems. When Darry was a child his mom dad died in a car crash which changed Darry’s life. After this when Darry was in school he couldn’t go to college, because the family didn’t have enough money. In Dally’s childhood he suffered a lot of problems too. Darry got arrested when he was ten which was a lot for a boy who was ten. The jail hardened Dally which wasn’t good. Darry and Dally are also similar because they try to be parents to their young, like Darry tells Pony what is right and wrong and Dally tells Johnny to not make the same mistake he made. To get hardened by going in the jail.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ponyboy and Johnny are alike in "The Outsiders". One reason they are alike is that they both take responsibilty for their actions. For example, when the church was on fire, Ponyboy and Johnny both thought that it was their fault. When someone realized that the kids were in the church playing, while it was burning down, Ponyboy, Johnny and Dally ran into the church and were letting all the kids escape. Another reason Johnny and Ponyboy are alike is that they are both the youngest in the gang. They are both good fighters and they are the ones most wanted in the gang.

    ReplyDelete
  31. In "The Outsiders" Dally and Bob are very similar. One way they are similar is that they are both always looking fore a fight. For example, Cherry said that Bob is always drunk and that he is always looking for a fight when he is drunk. Dally was upset that he had to miss the big rumble because he was in the hospital. Another reason they are similar is that both Dally and Bob are the most hot headed and violent members of the greasers and Soc's. That is how Dally and Bob are similar.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The two characters I chose are Ponyboy and Johny. They are simalare because in the part when pony ran from Darry Johny didnt say a thing wich shows me that they have a good frendship. also when Johny and Pony got into the fight with the socs and Johny stabed Bob Pony went with Johny the whole way to the church. this is one good simular that shows the great friendship between Pony and Johny.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Johnny and Ponyboy have a lot of comparisons. some copmparisons are that they both want to go to the country where there are no greasers or socs, there are just normal people. They also are both young and very sensitive. They both dont act like full greaers. For example, they dont enjoy fights and they dont enjoy being called Greasers. Also they both like books. Johnny bought Ponyboy "gone with the wind" and had Ponyboy read out loud to him. Therefore, Ponyboy and Johnny have a lot of comparisons. They are alike in a variety of ways.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ponny and Jonny are alike in many different ways. Both Ponny and Jonny are tuff but on the inside they’re soft and don’t want to hurt anyone. They don’t like to fight but they will if they have to. They are both interested in Gone with the Wind. They are the youngest of the Greasers. One major detail is that Ponny doesn’t have parents, but theoretically neither does Jonny. Jonny doesn’t have parents that care for him, therefor he doesn’t have parents to love him or treat him like family. Ponny and Jonny are both alike in many different ways.

  36. In the book “The Outsiders” the gang are all very close and share similarities. Two greasers I think are similar are Johnny and Ponyboy. One way I think Johnny and Ponyboy are similair is how they both are the youngest in the gang. The boys being the youngest aloud them to become more close to each other in the group than most are. They boys are also similar by them both being there when Bob (the soc) dies. Since both boys were there to wistness the death of Bob they were both scared to get the consiquence for killing him. Johnny was scared he’d get the electric chair and Ponyboy thought he’d get seperated from his brothers SodaPop and Darry. The boys also did a heroic act to save 8 or 7 year old from a bruning church in Windrixville. They both didn’t look scared as they were saving the boys they were almost happy as they were saving them. Finally, they are both similar by them thinking fighting is pointless. Johnny as he was dieing said that it didn’t matter that they beat the socs in the rumble, things werent going to change. Ponyboy says that fighting is pointless and that he only feels its nessecary when you need it for self-deffense.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The people that are alike is Johnny and Ponyboy because they are acting calm and sometimes cool and they like to fight when the other greasers are beating the socs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think that Jhonny and Ponyboy are similar. This is mainly because they both are sort of the gangs tag alongs. Ponyboy is yuong and Jhonny is restless so they tag along with the group. Another reason is that they both aren't into violence. Niether of them like fighting or killing socs. The last reason they're alike is because they both ran away. That was because they both felt as if they weren't wanted. This is how Jhonny and Ponyboy are similar.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I rhink that Ponyboy and Cherry are similar. One way they are similar is that they both watch the sunset. Another way they are similar because they both try their nest to fit in. For example, Cherry brags about bottle blasts even though she hates them, while Ponyboy acts like he likes to fight even though he knows he hates it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think that Ponyboy and Johnny are similar, They are similar because they both enjoy reading and interpreting while the rest of the gang hardly picks up a book. They are also alike because they both risked their lives tosave th children from the fire that they probably started.

My 2 characters are Ponyboy and Johnny. Ponyboy and Johnny are both the youngest members of the gang. Both of them had experienced being jumped by the Socs, although Johnny had been beaten way harder and ever since that Johnny carries a blade with him. They both are best friends, this is because they both don`t feel like they are fitting in with the gang. They both they have no reason for fights than just self protection. They are both heroic, because in Chapter 6, Ponyboy and Johnny run into the church to save the kids from the fire that had been happening in the church.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My two characters are Darry and Johnny. Darry and Johnny both have hard lives. Darry has been taking care of the family ever since Mr. and Mrs. Curtis died in a car wreck. Johnny also has difficulties with his parents because Johnny’s parents don’t seem to care for him that much. Also both characters will be tuff when they need to be. Johnny reminds Pony of a "little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers." He was jumped once by the Socs and beaten very badly. Since then he has carried a blade. Also, Darry had been the first greaser to step forward in the rumble and fight Paul and really shows his bravery.

  43. In The novle "The Outsiders" I noticed Two caracters are similar in several ways.Ponyboy and Johny are alike. For example both Pony and Johny wish they had more in life.Johny wishes his parents cared about him. Pony boy wished he could live in the country and have a better life. Those are two characters from "The Outsiders" that are the most similar to me.

    ReplyDelete
  44. From the book "The Outsiders" Johny and Ponyboy are very much alike. One reason would be that they both are nice because in the story when they were at the movies Dally was being mean to Cherry later that Dally left Ponyboy and Johny stayed there and watched out for the girls. Also because they are always together , and they were there for each other when they ranaway. That shows that if one of them has a problem they will always be there for each other. They both like the book "Gone With The Wind" . They both been smoking since they were little. These are some of the reasons how they are alike.

    ReplyDelete
  45. In "The Outsiders", there are many characters that can be compared. However, I am going to compare Cherry and Ponyboy. One way they are alike is that they realize that the Socs and the Greasers can get along if they put their differences to the side. For example, the sunset is symbolic of the similarities of each gang, and both Cherry and Ponyboy think back to that. Another way the two are alike is that Cherry and Ponyboy are both uncomfortable about the fights going on between the gangs.

Even though Cherry and Ponyboy come from different views of life, they both have the attributes that make them comparable.

    ReplyDelete
  46. In the novel The Outsiders Ponyboy and Darry are similar. They are similar because they both want to be something in life. Moreover, Ponyboy and Darry dont want to be Greasers all their life. Ponyboy says that the only thing stopping Darry from going to college and becoming a Scos is his two brothers ( Sodapop and Ponyboy) and the gang. Ponyboy says in the book that he wants to explore the world and become something important in life. These are some comparison between Ponyboy and Darry.

In the Outsiders, Johnny and Dally are very alike. One way they are alike is their childhoods. Dally's past was very hard to get through. He went to jail. He got hardened in jail, and his parents weren't helping him at all. In Johnny's childhood he is beaten by his father and his mother doesn't care for him either. He also got jumped and was hurt so bad he cried, which was rare for him. Another reason they are alike is because they both look out for Pony. Dally looked out for Pony when he slapped him on the back to put the fire on him out. He could of let Pony run back in to help Johnny but he saved him instead. He also told Pony not to look out for anyone but himself. That advice could keep Pony from getting hurt in the end. Johnny looked out for Pony when he stabbed Bob when Bob was drowning Pony. Johnny could of ran away because he was scared. He also told Pony to stay golden. He meant that he wants Pony to stay innocent, pure, and good forever. So Johnny and Dally are very alike and they also get along very well.

    ReplyDelete
  48. To people that have the same comparison from The Outsiders would be Pony boy and Cherry because they can relate to one another. I state this comment because in chapter 3 Cherry says to pony “I think you’re the first person I’ve ever really gotten through to. Then later on he goes on to say I don’t know why I could talk to her; maybe for the same reason she could talk to me. “Witch we could infer that they both can relate to one another. Also another example of how they’re alike is throughout the book pony boy talks about seeing the same sun set as cherry, meaning they see the same sunset no matter what side they were on whether it was from cherry’s patio or pony’s back yard it was a sun set. Also referring to seeing things from the same point of view .Those are some examples of how I think that cherry and pony boy are alike.

  49. Ponyboy & Johnny Comparison
    __________________________________
Two people I think that is alike more than anyone in the book "The Outsiders" is Ponyboy and Johnny. I think this because they are both soft and sensitive, they are both young and in a gang which makes them more soft and sensitive. Another way Ponyboy and Johnny is alike is they both are heroes they had enough strength to go inside a church on fire and save those little kids, they wanted the guilt to ware off especially Johnny since he killed Bob the Socs and Cherry boyfriend. Another way they are alike is they both STAY GOLD, what is mean by that is they both stay nice, stay sensitive, and stay themselves. They are not like of the other Greasers because they stay gold. When Ponyboy and Johnny saved the children they were showing the goldness inside of them, in the story when Ponyboy recites the poem one line is "Nothing gold can stay" Johnny was gold and after that moment he died. Those are three of many ways Ponyboy and Johnny are alike.

    ReplyDelete
  50. In the story the outsiders i believe that dally and soda are alot of like. One way i believe they are alike is that they both like to fight. I say that because dally got out of a hospital to be in the rumble and soda was excited for it. Another way soda and johnny are a like is they both are really caring. My example for this is soda is always sticking up for pony when he gets yelled at by darry. Also dally got johnny and pony supplies when they ran away.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think Dally and Darry are similar in several ways. One way they are similar is that they are both the oldest of the small gang ( Ponyboy, Sodapop, 2 bit,Steve, and Johnny). Another similarity is that they both care about someone a lot. Darry cares about Ponyboy a lot and Dally cares about Johnny a lot. You can tell that they care about them because of their actions towards them and how they treat them. Those are some ways Darry and Dally are similar.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sodapop and Two bit are alike in many ways. One way they are alike is that are always happy and they like to kid around.E.g.:Ponyboy said that Soda always makes you smile, and you can never stay mad at Two bit. Another way they are alike is they like to flirt with girls. For example, Soda works at the gas station and a lot of girls go there just to flirt with him. Also when Johnny and Ponyboy where talking to cherry and her friend, Two bit started to flirt with Cherry's friend. As you can see they are alike in many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Soda and Darry are the same because they both worry about Pony and they love fighting. Although worry and handle different ways but they boy worry about Ponyboy. soda and Darry are also the same because they are both inthe gang.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The two character's that I will be comparing are Jonny and Ponyboy. I chose to compare these two because they are friends and seem to really understand one another. One comparison that i can come up with is that they are both sensitive, one example that proves this comparison is correct is that they are both sensative what people say to them like when Dally yelled at johnny for asking if he parents asked about him. Another comparison is that they bith have a big imagination. An example of this is how they both loved reading "Gone With the Wind". The final comparison is that they dont really fit the greaser standard, an example that supports this is that they may look tough but on the inside they are just regular teenage boys on the inside. As you can see there are many similarities between these two characters.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Marsha and cherry are alike because the are both socs. They both have boyfriends who are socs and they where the ones who beat up Johnny. They both said to Ponyboy and Johnny that if they don't say hi to them don't take it personally because the don't want to be caught talking to them so they don't get made fun of.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Johnny and Pony are alike in many ways. One way they are alike is they both think that killing is wrong. Johnny thinks killing is wrong because before he died, he told Dally "Killing is bad." Pony thinks killing is wrong because before the rumble he asked himself why he fights. He answered himself thinking that he only fights for self defense and if he had to kill it would also be for self defense. Another way Johnny and Pony are alike is they both are the youngest in the gang. Johnny and Pony are also alike because they want to go to the country and live a normal life. They were talking about this the night Pony fell asleep in the lot. Pony was thinking that Soda, Darry, Johnny, and himself would move into the country and the gang could come in visit them on the weekends. Pony and Johnny also enjoyed and had the patience to read a book unlike the other members of the gang. For example Johnny went to the store to get the book Gone With the Wind and pony was excited to read the book aloud.

    ReplyDelete
  57. In the book The Outsiders I think the two characters that are alike are Darry and Dally.
I think that because Darry has cold pale blue eyes the opposite of his father and Darry has cold blue eyes too. Also they are the oldest, been to jail and get drunk. They are also similar because their greasers and grew up on the bad side of town and faced many problems like getting jumped or even getting killed.Darry and Dally are two characters that are similar in the book The Outsiders.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Darry and Dally are alike because both of them care about Ponyboy. I know this because in the novel Darry punishes Ponyboy not because he's its because he cares about Ponyboy and i know Dally cares about Ponyboy is because when Dally realizes Ponyboys shirt is wet Dally forces Ponyboy to come inside and to put on a dry shirt so Ponyboy wont catch a cold. so thats why i think Darry and Dally are alike.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Two characters which are alike are Randy and Pony boy. One way that they are similar is that Randy and Pony boy both don't like fighting and they think it doesn't resolve anything. Another way they are similar is that they both lost their bestfriends. Bob died and so did jonny. They both seem different then their gang because Pony boy likes to read and he likes movies and Randy hates fighting. Thy are similar in a lot of ways.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think Ponyboy and Johnny are similar. I think this because first they've both had hard times in there life. There also similar because there both caring and conciderate of others, for example, when they were nice to Cherry and her friend when Dally was being a Jerk. Another example is when Johnny The last comparison I have of Ponyboy and Johnny is there both sensitive, because they both have a big heart for other people and are guilty for things they do wrong. Thats why I think Johnny and Ponyboy are similar.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think Ponyboy and Johnny are similar, because they both think that fighting is not called for. Also when Ponyboy was reciting the Jack Frost poem, Johnny actually listened to it. Johnny also remembered the poem and told Ponyboy as his lats words to "Stay Gold". Another way they are simialr is that both Johnny and Ponyboy didn't ever want to kill Bob but did it out of self deffense.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think that in "The Outsiders" Jonny and Ponyboy are just alike. The reason I think this is because a detail from the book Pony said they were buddies and they understood eachother well. Like they were always thinking the same thing. That is why I think Ponyboy and Jonny are the same.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think that Ponyboy and Johnny are alike. There both soft when Johnny stabbed Bob, Johnny was in shock for days and he does not like to talk about that situation. When Ponyboy feels hurt he hides his feelings so that he is not called soft

    ReplyDelete
  64. In the novel The Outsiders, I believe that Ponyboy and Randy are similar in many ways (Randy is only similar to Pony after Bob is killed). One way Randy is similar to Pony is that both of them are against fighting and are sick of it. Also both of them see that Greaser and Soc are both people and not two different types of people.

  65. I think Pony Boy and Johnny are charactarized with similar personalities because they both are "sensitive" in their own ways. They are both against fighting and will only do it if they really have to for self defense. Pony and Johnny both like books too which says alot about who they are, and that could also be a reason as to why they are "different" from the other gang members.

I think Poyboy and Johnny are similar in many ways. One way is both of the characters are softer than the rest of the gang. They are shown as soft because both of them do not want to hurt anyone. They were both guilty for Johnny's actions. Ponyboy and Johnny are also similar because I think they are wiser than everyone else. This is because of when Ponyboy recites the Jack Frost poem. They are also more wise because of how they both liked the book, 'Gone With The Wind', because Johnny started to like it too after Ponyboy started to read it to him.

  69. I find Johnny and Ponyboy to be the most similar. They are both soft hearted and seem to be wiser than the rest of the group. Ponyboy likes to read and Johnny bought Ponyboy a book to read to him while they were in the church called "Gone With The Wind" so Pony can read it to Johnny to pass the time.
