The Outsiders Theme

For this week's homework, please write a statement of theme from The Outsiders. Remeber, a theme is a lesson about life that we can all learn from the experiences of the characters in the novel, but it's not specific to the characters or the novel.

After your statement of theme, please write a paragraph describing why you state the theme as you do, using details from the text to support the theme.

  1. The theme of the book The Outsiders is friendship counts even when you have not a lot of time to live or if you are in danger.

  2. This is an add on. The details are that Johnny to Ponyboy is like a friend that you can't loose Ponyboy acts all crazy now like " Where am I" or like Ponyboy is starting to fail in his classes because now he's lost that his friend died.

  3. I believe that the theme of The OutSiders book is to not judge people by how society labels them, but to look at them and to get to know them as people not just a title.

  4. the theme of the outsiders would be to stay gold.or be yourself.i think this would be a good theme because whene johnny was dieing he told pony to stay gold.by this he ment to be yourself and dont let others persuade you to be differnt then yourself then you usally are like a greaser would not be apprpriate for pony beacause hes not a greaser is not like others he like sunsets and dosnt liie fight and such other thing that greasers have dont or do.so by johnny saying stay gold it ment be yourself

  5. I think that the theme is accteping people because in the story it shows you that everybody accpted things because they had a good reason for it. For example jonny actped the death of his because he knew that he didnt have anything going on for him. Another detail is soda having to accept the lost of Sandy. And Darry and Ponyboy accteping what Soda wanted which was to not fight anymore.

  6. The theme of The Outsiders would be to stay gold. Or be yourself. I think this would be an appropriate theme because on Johnnys death bed, he told Ponyboy to "stay Gold". By this, he meant be yourself and dont let others persuade you to be something your not. Like a greaser would not be appropriate for Ponyboy because of his backround. So he has a choice to do what he feels is best. So by "stay gold", Johnny meant be yourself.

i think the theme for the "Outsiders" is being an individual is important but sometimes being a conformist is the way to fit in.

  8. I think sunsets are a theme in the outsiders. For an example Ponyboy says Is the sunset good on the east side to Sherri.Meaning that evreyone is the same.

  9. The lesson about life in the Outsiders is that you should not be a gang member and fight over nothing that will not solve your promble.
Also you may have one of your firend die over who have the most money and hows poor or who live in a bad place or a good place. Some detals that came from the story is that pony boy had said he will save the kide in the church and jhonny follow he in the church and try to help to but he got burn and broke his back. This is is what will happend if you are in a gang or if you killed some one it wil come back on you.

The theme of THE OUTSIDERS is to stay out of trouble. This is the theme, because Pony was staying out of trouble and he was having a good life and good grades. Once he had got into trouble even more trouble was coming towards him. He got into trouble by being involved in a killing of a Soc. Ever since that he had to run from the police and hide in an old abondened church. He got himself out of trouble by saving few kids from the fire that was probably started by a cigarette lighting up the leaves in the church. Since he saved the kids he had became a hero. He got himself out of trouble by the people who saw when Johnny killed Bob telling the whole truth of what had happened and that it was only in self defense. In school he had to write a theme essay for his English class in order to pass the class.

  12. The life lesson in The Outsiders is that it doesn't matter what town you live on or if you're rich or not you're still a human being like others. Also you don't have to fight other people to become popular or to get more attention from your friends.Details from the story that make me think that is the greasers live on one side of town and the socs live on the other side of town.

The theme from The Insiders is even though many bad things happen in life you have to try your best to keep on going. I state this as the theme because it relates to all of the things that has happend to Ponyboy. For example when Ponyboy had lost Dally and Johnny, plus he was thinking that they might've put him and Soda into a boy's home. Ponyboy had gotten into a lot of things in his life, and it's really hard for him to move on knowing that his best friend died and another friend died after.

  14. The theme that i remember of the outsider is that the poeple or the main charactor teach them a lessson to not fight just for territorry.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The theme is that they were fighting for a reason and also for what johnny was going through so they went to the hospital and gave him the good news and then at that moment he died.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The theme to THE OUTSIDERS is acceptance. One example that this novle shows acceptance as the theme that Pony accepted thatJohnny was dying, also he accepted that the socs are people to, and darry accepts all of the mistakes that Ponyboy made through out the whole novel.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The theme to THE OUTSIDERS is to always accept people and forgive them. For example after Johnny dies Pony goes into this traumatic stage and he starts trying to convince himself Johnny's alive. If Pony had just accepted Johnny's death he might not have had to go through all of those problems. Another example of this theme is when Johnny accepts his condition and understands he's going to die. One final example of this theme is when Pony and Randy were talking, Pony accepts that Randy's a different person and he's no longer a soc, he's just a guy.I think if that Pony eventually learned this lesson and that is how he accepted his problems.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think that an appropriate theme for The Outsiders is...
"You shouldn't judge people by how society labels them."
I chose this theme because often in the book the Greasers are looked upon as bad people. The Socs, however, are seen as good, brilliant people mainly because of how the look. A detail from the book that supports this theme is that when Ponyboy flips his switchblade out in front of a girl in school, she calls him a hood and thinks bad of him. When people see the Socs, on the other hand, they think rich and nice people. But really most of the Socs are spoiled.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the theme of Te Outsiders is that it does not matter what group of people you are from but who you are. I can tell because Ponyboy is a greaser. Greasers are known to always be bad. But Ponyboy is a good person. Darry and Soda are also good people. Thay do barely anything to harm others.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The theme that I eceived from this bokk is, Don't judge a book by its cover, or Dont judge people by what they look like before you get to know them. I learned this because the socs and the greasers are different gangs but they are all the same, no matter how much grease the greasers put in their hair.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The theme from the outsiders that i choose is enjoy every minuete of life. I choose this because in a blink of an eye johnny and dally had died, and it was so unexpected. This was a hard time for ponyboy and the rest of the greasers.Therefor enjoy the time spent with other people because they could be gone just like that.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think that the theme of "The Outsiders" is things are much different then they seem. One reason I think this is because Ponyboy thought Darry didn't care for him when Darry just didn't want Ponyboy to make the same mistakes as he did. Also, Ponyboy thought that the Socs had it good. He didn't realize the truth until Cherry had told him things were rough all over. Finally, Ponyboy thought that Bob was a bad person, when he found out that he just wanted people to tell him no.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the theme of The Outsiders is ,stay golden.By stay golden I mean don't follow a bad crowed stay positive. In the case of Pony it means don't go hard core hood.In life stay golden means don't smoke or drink abusively. It also means don't hang with the wrong crowed.Just do what you got to do to make life good.except sell drugs because it will catch up to you in the long run.
I think this is the theme because stay golden in life is the way to make a honest living and if you stay golden you won't get tangled up in some legal trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  24. First of all, I would like to wish you good luck on your surgery. I hope everything turns out okay and that you recover quickly. My theme for this story is: Always judge someone about how their individual character is, not any characteristics of any group that they may be a part of.
I state this theme as I do because throughout this book, the protagonist Ponyboy talks about gresers being hoods. but in reality, Ponyboy realized that nobody is a hood unless they want to. Also, when Pont talks to a rich kid named Randy, his freind comments on Randy's class. Pony responded by saying,"He's just a guy." No matter what kind of group or social class we are in, or whether we are just outsiders, we are all just people. I think that is the kind of message that S.E Hinton wanted to put in The Outsiders.

  25. Mrs Puccio, I have something else to say.Thank you for being such an exellent teacher and thank you for making a big impact on my life.I am not just saying this. You taught me the meaning of reading and how to enjoy it, learn from it, and use it in my life. You have taught me things that I will use for the rest of my life. You have taught me basicly more english that I have ever learned in my life. You are one of my idols and one of the most hardworking, serious, and caring people I have ever met. You have also taught me that being an outsider like myself can't be such a bad thing after all. When I graduate 7th grade, i will miss your class most of all(even though I don't have to read every night!).
    Thank You,

    Zachary Manuel

  26. I think the theme in the outsiders is to think before you act. you should think about your actions before making them or else it could can cause trouble or even death! You should use your head just like Darry said to Ponyboy.

I think that thinking about you actions before you do them is a good theme for The Outsiders. I think this is a good theme because when Darry hit Ponyboy, Ponyboy ran away which caused Darry to regret what he did. If Darry were to think before he hit Ponyboy, then there would have been much less of a problem. Also, if Ponyboy were to think before he walked back from the movie theatre alone, then the socs would not have jumped him.

  27. The theme of “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton is to be happy with what you have. Ponyboy had his life as a greaser, a low class boy, who wasn’t as good as a soc, but in the end he decides to move on with his life as he has it. Sometimes you don’t get what you want, but that doesn't you should give up or mess up your life. The idea is to be thankful for what you have and use it in a way that will result in good thing instead of ending up in a bad thing. We should learn by this theme that life is a mystery in which we have to find the pieces of the things we want, then put them together and wait for the thing to come out.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I believe that the theme of the outsiders is "don't judge a book by it's cover".
I think this because A lot of people in the novel look at the soc and see them as nice boys. And they look at Greasers and think of them as dirty hoods. Well how they look is the exact oposite of how they act in this novel.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Theme~Dont judge a person by what you hear from another person.
I used the theme dont used to judge a person by what you hear from another person to fit the book "The Outsiders because all the greasers think that the socs have it easy but even Cherri Valinse said that its rough all over. Most socs think that all greaser are is a hood and they are smart when they are. Another reason why I think that my theme fits "The Outsiders" is that Ponyboy or any of the other gang memebers never knew that even Bob (a soc) wanted to have rules/boundaries. Finally, I think that "The Outsiders" theme that you shouldnt judge a person by what others say or what you hear because when Ponyboy was talking to Randy in the car Randy had no idea that if Ponyboy got in the trouble at the herring then he would be put in a boys home. Randy didnt know that Ponyboys parents had died so he realized the everyone has it hard.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think the theme is don't try to grow up too fast. One reason I state the theme this way is that Pony Boy kept saying that Dally grew up too fast. He thought that was why Dally was so hardened, because he had to be to have gone to jail so young. Another reason is that Johny told him to stay gold. I interpret staying gold to mean to keep the qualities of youth about you and not to try to grow up too fast. Finally, I state the theme the way I do because Pony Boy also believes that Darry grew up too fast. He had to stay home, not going to college, to take care of his younger brothers and become their substitute parent. That made him have to mature rapidly. There were multiple examples that pointed to "not trying to grow up too fast" being a theme in The Outsiders.

  31. A theme from the outsiders is individuality

All of the characters in the outsiders show individuality .The whole gang shows their individuality by being greasers they are tough greasy hair kids who live on the east side of town nome of them are drop outs while some of them are hoodlums all of them are different and they all show their idividuality

We can all learn from the novel "The Outsiders". But how? A life lesson we can learn is that Individuality is important. For example During "The Outsiders" One of the Greasers say that they cant go on with ought Johnny, the reader can infer they say this because Johnny's individuality affects the Greasers in an important way.

In "The Outsiders", the theme is "You can't judge a book by looking at the cover" because the greasers are called hoods a lot in the book and some of the people who do it don't really know them or hate them. Another reason why is because Ponyboy calls the Socs hoods and spitted and hates them. The last reason why is because Cherry calls Dally a hood and doesn't even know him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's not about the group, but about the individual.
There are many reasons this is the theme. The first one is Ponyboy's intrests. Instead of liking fights like other greasers, Ponyboy likes books and movies. A nother reason is that Ponyboy saved the kids in the fire. Most Socs and Greasers wouldn't have bothered. The last reason is Rndy didn't fight. Even though all the Socs fought, he didin't. This is why that the individual means more than the group they belong to.

The theme of the outsiders is, "Don't judge people by wheat society makes them out to be." It is this because of the Greasers and Soc's constant battleing because of what they think of each other. The "Greasers society" thinks of the Soc's as people that have money and power. But, if you think about their emotions and wants, you would find out what true person they are.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think the theme of The Outsiders is that you need to get to know someone as an individual before judging them. The greasers are viewed as juvenile delinquants with long hair, and the socs as mean rich kids with mustangs and rings. Pony Boy realizes that you cant judge someone from what group they are in. He talks to Randy and realizes that he's "not a soc". Randy also realizes that Pony is "not a greaser". When they say this thay mean that they dont fit the discription of their group's reputation and who they are on the inside is what really matters.

  39. The theme of this book is to not judge people by how society labels them, but to get to know them as people and not just how they seem. Meaning dont judge a book by its title.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I believe that the theme for The Outsiders is that everyone is the same on the inside. For example, Ponyboy realized that its no longer soc vs. grease, and that everyone is just a true person. When Ponyboy and Randy had the conversation in the blue mustang, Ponyboy knew that everyone was a true person. Ponyboy and Randy both didn't want to fight in the rumble that night because they both knew it was no longer soc vs. grease and that everyone should start treating each other with respect.

    ReplyDelete
  41. A statement of theme from The Outsiders is that everyone is the same on the inside, and judging people about how society recognizes them is wrong. To support this theme a reason would be that the whole purpose for the rumble was to establish who was better than the other. But Ponyboy Curtis and Randy knew better. They knew that fighting was useless, and that the greasers and socs should get along. No man is better than the other. Also, Randy and Ponyboy, a soc and a greaser, sat in the socs car and had a heart to heart conversation with each other. A second reason to support this theme is that Ponyboy and Sherri Cherry Valance both saw sunsets. As ponyboy quoted "Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset." They saw the same sunset. This symbloizes how theyre alike. Also, sherri said, "Things are rough all over." This meaning that socs dont have the whole fabulous life that everyone dreams of, like the greasers.

    ReplyDelete
  42. In the book "The Outsiders" the theme in the book is that individuality is important. I think this is the theme because a lot of the characters in the book show a lot of individuality.
One person who shows a lot of individuality is Ponyboy. Ponyboy loves sunsets, school, books, and poems. This is something the other greasers never think about.
Another person which shows a lot of individuality is Johnny. Johnny shows that he is individual because he is softer than the other greasers and always listens to Ponyboy. He is the only person Ponyboy can talk to.
Finally, Darry shows a lot of individuality because he is not like a real greaser because he works for a living and always wishes he went to college.
Almost all the characters in the book have that own individual trait that makes them who they are.

    ReplyDelete
  43. In "The Outsiders" I believe that the theme is
even though we are different, we are all similar in
some ways. One example of why I think this is
because of the authors use of symbolism. You
Are able to see the same sunset from the east
as you can from the west side of town. Another
way is the talk that Ponyboy had with Randy in
his blue mustang. Pony realizes that neither one
of them are a Greaser nor Soc, but just people,
    normal people.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In any book, there is a theme. In "The Outsiders", I think the theme of the book was to accept who you are and what you have to cope with the problems in life and be able to move on. For example, Ponyboy used Johnny's advice, "Stay gold..." to remind himself that even if bad things happen, you stick to your personality and try to make the bad experiences good.

I think a lesson in this book you should make fun of peopel because they have less than you you should help them and be kind to them the socas werent nice to the gresers and look what happened to bob he got stabbed so thats my theme for this story

    ReplyDelete
  46. The theme i have gotten out of "THE OUTSIDERS" is "dont judge someone by how they look".

I got this from the outsiders because i felt that is one of the lessons the author wanted you to get out of the novel. My reasons behind this is how the greasers are usaully mean cruel people. That is what cherry and her friend thought then it turned out johnny and ponyboy were kind people. This why i chose that as the theme.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The theme I get from the outsiders is:Don't judge someone by what they but by who they are. I got this theme for the outsiders because othe whole soc-grease thing. The greasers were always blamed for everything because theyweren't rich socs when really it was the socs who jumped people and vandalized their property.

    ReplyDelete
  48. A theme for the outsiders is people may be different than they seem. I got that theme because of Dally. He always acted tough and hardened when really he cared alot about things like horseracing and Johnny.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think one of the themes from "The Outsiders" was that you should never judge a book by its cover. I think that this was one of the themes in "The Outsiders" because the socs and greasers judged each other on looks. Since the greasers look dirty and wear cheap clothing, the socs assumed that they were no good and had feelings. and the socs thought that they were better than them because of their money. The greasers assumed that since the socs had money and dressed good, that they were spoiled snobs with no feelings. Later it is realized that it really is rough all over and that each side West and East can see the sunset real good, this symbolized that every body has feelings. This is why one of the themes in "The Outsiders" is to never judge a book by its cover.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I believe the main theme of “The Outsiders” is do not judge a person by who they are or where they come from. To back up my statement I say this because throughout the book pony mentions how he thought it was money that separated the greasers from the SOCS or when they are on their way to she Johnny and they run in to randy when pony boy gets out he realizes that SOCS were just guys and it was hard all over. Even when Johnny killed bob they thought just because bob was a SOCS and rich didn’t mean he didn’t have problems at home. Pony boy towards the end starts to realize that you shouldn’t judge people because who they are for example pony boy says “maybe people understand then and wouldn’t be so quick to judge a boy by the amount of hair oil he wore”. That is why I think the theme of “The Outsiders” Is don’t judge a person by whom they are or where they come from.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Be different in your own way; don’t follow behind the footsteps of others.

Pony boy and Johnny are different from the rest of the Greasers. They watch movies, look at the sunset, and read books. The rest of the Greasers just like to sit around, smoke, play sports, and drop out of school. Pony Boy and Johnny are softer than the rest of the Greasers but follow along in the back of the crowd. They saved a bunch of little kids from a fire in an abandon church; the rest of the Greasers would never have helped them. Pony boy and Johnny are followers but they are nothing like the rest of the Greasers.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The theme for the outsiders is "Dont Judge a Book by its Cover". One detail that supports this theme is that Ponyboy may look like a dumb greaser while he is actualy smarter than avergage kids in school. Also how Randy seems like a cold-blooded soc who gets his kicks from beating kids up is actualy a real person who has fellings, this is proved when he talks to Ponyboy in his car. Finaly the last example that proves this theme correct is that the gangs are both people and not "greasers" and "soc's" quoted from Ponyboy. As you can see many details from the novel can support this theme.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think the theme of the book is don't judge a person by their label or what they look like or where they live. In the book, Ponyboy makes it clear that he is a person, not a greaser. And that Randy and Bob are people not soces. And also when Pony was talking to Randy about the burning church and if Randy had the guts to save the kids, Pony said it doesn't matter whether your a soc or a greaser it depends on who the person is.

    ReplyDelete
  54. To me the theme of "The Outsiders" is the importance of friendship. I think this because in the book Dally says, "We can't get along without you" to Johnny. This just shows how much they need each other to stay friends. Another example to prove this theme is when Johnny and Pony needed to escape from the cops. They went to their friend Dally for help, who gave them a loaded gun, and a dry shirt for Pony. Dally gave Pony a shirt because he was wet and it was cold outside, so he didn't want Pony to get pneumonia. Dally also gave them advice on what to do next. He told them to catch a train and how to get to a church to hide out. Also, while they were gone Dally covered for them by telling the cops that Johnny and Pony were heading for Texas. He lied to the cops to lead them away from Johnny and Pony. Another example of friendship is that before the rumble Dally told Pony to just call for back up when or if he needed it during the rumble, so one of them would go help him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The theme of "The Outsiders " would be getting along. They have a hard time getting along with the socs. One reason would be they never got along because how the soc. would come and fight with the greasers. Also thats why johny killed bob.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think the theme for the outsiders is brotherly love is the most important thing no matter what. One example of this is when Darry hit Pony he really got mad. But after that they made up. And the gang wouldn't be together if they didn't have brotherly love because of all the arguments and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The theme of The Outsiders in my opinion is that every person is equal. In the novel their is a rival between the West side Socs, and the East side Greasers. The Socs are the teenagers who have money, and the greasers are the poor hoods. Moreover, in the introduction Poyboy learns that the Socs and the Greasers are not that different. They both like watching the sunsets, and going to the movies, Cherry says that the only difference is that greasers have more emotion.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Theme- Being an individual is someting worth exploring.

I word the theme this way because throughout the book characters have to find what makes them who they are. Like Ponyboy who liked sunsets, books and movies. This showed ponyboy's individuality. Also Randy showed individuality when he was talking to Ponyboy about Bob. This showed individuality because socs and greasers aren't suppose to be "friendly" to each other.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think the theme of this book is staying out of trouble.I think staying out of trouble is the theme because if johnny wouldn't have got into gangs his future would it have been different.I think johnny realized at the of the book, that staying out of trouble was the right path for his future, thats why he told Ponyboy to stay gold, meanig to stay out of trouble, therefor he doesn't end up like him.

I think the theme is don't judge someone before you know them.

I think this is the theme because of how society view the greasers. Society seems to think greasers are all bad and no good. But really greasers can have big hearts. Like Ponyboy when he saved those kids. He chose to save them he was not forced by others to run into the burning church. Another way greasers show that they have a heart was when Dally saved Pony from the fire on his back. Dally might have knocked Pony out but he saved him from burning anymore than he had already. That showed me that Dally did have a heart and cared a little bit for Pony. People would also judge socs before they knew them. Most people would look at their clothes or hair and think that they were nice and classy. But, socs could be mean and not caring at all. Like when they jumped Jhonny. They didn't care that they were hurting him they were just thinking about how it made them feel superior to the greasers. Also when Randy spoke to Pony before the big rumble he said something unexpected. He said that he could not believe a greaser would save some kids and that he would not have saved them if he was in Pony's position. So socs might seem nice but they can be nasty and greasers can be nice and have big hearts deep down. So this book taught me that you can't judge someone if you don't know them.

  61. I think the theme of The Outsiders is the importance in friendship. I think this because in the book Johnny wold have never known what love is like before he died without the rest of the gang being good to him and being there when they were needed. Also i think this because when Pony and Johnny needed to run away to be safe they had someone to go to that knew where they could hide. Another reason is that when Pony and Johnny where in the church they cared for and helped one another.

  62. I think that the theme of The Outsiders is to not judge people as society labels them. For example Cherry thought that Ponybboy and Johny were going to be like Dallas. Also Randy thought that Ponyboy wouldn't understand how he felt. Finally, the cops always think that when something bad happens its the greasers.

  63. "Stay Gold" Johnny told Pony boy to Stay Gold right before he died. To Stay Gold means to stay out of trouble and to have a good life. I think Johnny said that to Pony so he wouldn't forget it. I think Pony will stay gold because Darry is always on his case about grades. But because Johnny said stay gold to Pony I think it will influence the gang to be better than before and stay out of trouble.

  64. In The novel "The Outsiders" there are many diferent themes. I think the main theme is to remember who you are. This means to not act like someone you're not. In the story Ponyboy attacks the Socs with a broken bottle, but Ponyboy really isn't like that. Before Johny and Dally died, Pony had been in a similar situation but would have never used the bottle. It was only after they died that Ponyboy started acting like someone other than himself. If Ponyboy remembered to be himself, he would not have made a bad decision.

  65. A theme of The Outsiders is that everyone has something in common that they can relate to, no matter how different the two may same. In The Outsiders the most relevant example from the text is when Sherry and Ponyboy have a discussion about the sunset. Hinton explains in her writing that the two different characters have something in common that they can relate to with each other. Another separation of characters with similarities is Bob and Johnny. The similarity beneath them is that they both only wanted for their parents to pay attention to them. Johnny was for his parents to just, plainly, love him/. What Bob wanted which is different, but is still attention from the parents, is that he wanted them to set down some rules. This is how the text, and the author, shows the theme.

  66. The theme of the Outsiders is that we shouldn't judge people how society sees them.
That is the theme because whenever Randy and Ponyboy talk, Randy says something about how he can't believe he is a Greaser and Pony denies it. Pony also says that the Greasers are treated worse than the Socs because of the newspapers. This to me shows that that is the books theme.

  67. The major theme in the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is live the moment.

I think that this is a theme because the experience that Jonny had was when he saved those kids from the fire, he looked like he was having the time of his life. Which meant that he was probably living the moment and loving tho be the hero. That one part when Jonny and Ponyboy saved the kids was when I thought of the theme and why it made sense.

  68. I think the theme of "The Outsiders" is to stick together when your all friends, and it doesn't matter who you are or were you are from.An example of that is that Cherry was a spy for the greasers, even though they weren't aloud to be friends because of the greaser vs socs conflict, because of where they were from. The gang stuck with Dally when the police were after him when he robbed the store and they came to try and save him before the police killed him. Dally stayed with Johnny when he got hurt in the burning church to get him out. Johnny and Pony rescued the little kids together. Also in the end Randy would talk to Pony like they were good friends event though they couldn't talk freely because of the rivalry between greasers and socs, because of were they are from. The Theme of "The Outsiders" is to stick together when your all friends, and it doesn't ,matter were you are from or who you are, a greaser or a soc.

  69. In "The Outsiders" the theme is there is nothing worth fighting about. I think that is the theme of the book because at the end when Johnny was dying he said there was no point of all the fighting. Also Jerry said that he wanted to get away from all of the fighting. Jerry also said that even if the greasers win the fight that they will still be greasers tomorrow and the soc's will still be soc's. that is why the theme is there is nothing worth fighting about.
