In Stargirl, two conflicts keep popping up: man vs. self and man vs. society. For your response this week, select one of the two following statements and defend why you think it is right.
The primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. self.
OR
The primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society.
For your response, the statement that you choose should be the topic sentence for your paragraph. To develop your paragraph, give three main reasons why you selected the statement, and use details from the text to support each of your three main reasons.
I think the primary confict for Stargirl is man vs. society. I think that it is man vs. society because Stargirl is currently getting the silent treatment from the entire school because they dont like her and they think she is the reason they lost the game. Another reason why I think its man vs. society is that Leo is scared to attmit his feelings towards Stargirl because he is afraid of being picked on and he doesnt want to be called a werdido. The last reason why I think the primary conflict in Stargirl is that when Leo starts hanging out with Stargirl he becomes a werido and gets the silent treatment to just for being with Stargirl which makes him feel uncomfortable to be with Stargirl because he doesnt like being the cernter of attention. That why I think the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in stargirl is man vs. society because stargirl is having problems with the student body at mica high school, they left her at the school at one of the games, and threw a tomato at her. I know thats right because everyone is being mean to her so thats why it is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict for stargirl is man vs society.I think it is man vs society because stargirl is getting silent treatment from the whole school because they all are causing her for the blame of them loosing their basketball game, but I personally think that she wasnt the blame.Another reason why it is man vs society because stargirl cheers for the other team and the students from mica high school dont appreciate that.Last but not least another reason is because how stargirl acts in front of them and how she gets into students buisnesses when it is not her buisness.
ReplyDeleteI think that the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society. I think this because the only reason that Leo is driven to a man vs. self conflict, coosing between Stargirl and his friends, is because the school doesn't accept Stargirl. I also think this because Leo will have to face the society if he chooses Stargirl, which will be a man vs. society conflict. I think that this is the conflict also because Leo is getting the silent treatment from the school because they dont like Stargirl.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict for Stargirl is man vs. society. The conflict is man vs. society because, the Mica Area High School students arent being very friendly or accepting to Stargirl. Now nobody is talking to or even aknowledging that Leo or Stargirl even exist.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict for Stargirl is man vs. society. I think that it is man vs. society because Stargirl is getting ignored by all of the people in the school. Well except for Leo. Also it is man vs. society because a person threw a tomato at stargirl and that people are ignoring Leo too because he is with stargirl.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict of stargirl is man vs. self.
ReplyDeleteI think this because closer to the begining of the story Leo was fighting something inside him to go near or talk to Stargirl like when he went to her house he started to procrastinate by getting pizza and cirling Stargirl's house. And when he was walking out of lunch and something inside him was telling him to answer Stargirl when she said "your" welcome. Also when Archie told him that he had to make a desicion between Stargirl or the students and something was telling him to make the desicion though he really didn't want to
I think the primary conflicted is man vs. self. even though man vs. society, acured more than once. it's man vs. self because Leo is fighting a force within his self. For example like Leo had to choose wether he cared about Stargirl, or the School. Another way it could be man vs. Self is beacuse Leo knew he liked Stargirl for who she was and when the school didn't like thatf facted of her cheering for the other team he liekd her for who she was, but he wished that she could be normal thats a problem with in his self.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in stargirl is man vrs self because it is Leo trying to figure out who he want to listen to more. like do he want to listen to what people are saying about them are his feelings for stargirl.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in stargirl is man vs self.
ReplyDeleteOne reason why I think man vs self is the conflict is because Leo had a hard time going to stargirl's house he had paced back and forth up the street trying to go to her house heb had stopped for a piece of pizza before making his decison .Another reason why I think the conflict is man vs self is because When Leo was leaivng lunch stargirl came up to him and said "HI Leo " Leo soon began to panic and just left the lunch room with out saying anything . One more reason why I think the conflict is man vs self is beacuse when leo went to see archie and asked him what he should do.Archie told to ask himself this whose affection mean the most to you theirs or hers? Leo has a hard time choosing . This is why I think the primary conflict in Stargirl is Man vs Self
The primary conflict of stargirl is man vs self.I think this because in stargirl loe is in love with stargirl and then loe went to go to stargirls hidden place. And loe is scared because they might make fun of loe because he is going out with stargirl. So loe will give company to stargirl so stargirl well not fell left out.
ReplyDeleteThe main conflict is man vs self because Leo has to choose does he like the studentbody or Stargirl. He likes Stargirl but noone els likes her. If he chooses the studentbody then he will have to avoid stargirl. Leo does not want to make this decision. When he hangs out with Stargirl everyone ignores him.
ReplyDeletethe no name comment after nicole trypuc is mine kim lennon
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict of "Stargirl" is man vs. society because Stargirl (the "man") is being hated by the student body (the "society"), and then, if Leo is with Stargirl, he'll be against the "society" as well for being with Stargirl. Also, even though Leo has his own set of problems, possibly making it a man vs. self conflict, Stargirl and Leo have problems with society too, making the primary conflict man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteIn the story stargirl i think that the conflict is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteI think that its man vs. society because the student body is giving stargirl the silent treat ment. not something inside of her.
I also think that its man vs. society because, Leo is worrying about what the student body thinks of him, and how they look at him with starrgirl.
My last thought of why i think that its man vs. society is because the student body has changed what they thought of stargirl and Leo. Because at first they didnt like stargirl and they liked Leo. Then they were okay with stargirl. Now the student body is not talking to stargirl because she cheered for the other team. And so Mica area high school didnt feel the same way towards stargirl anymore so they ignore her and Leo.
I think the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. self because Leo has to choose Stargirl or the student body according to what Archy said. This also is man vs. self because Leo had a chance to talk to Stargirl during lunch, but his body told him to hurry out of the lunch room. My final reason for this book being man vs. self is that when Leo went to Stargirl's house, he had a choice to show himself and talk to her in person, but he just hide behind the car instead. Leo has made all of these choices and it was either a good one or a bad one (depending on the situation) this is why it's man vs. self.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict is man vs. society because in the book everyone in the Mica High School is mad at Stargirl and giving her the silent treatment. Another reason I think it's man vs. society is because, when Archie asked Leo the question he didn't answer him because he didn't know. One other reason I think it's Man vs. Society because, ever since Leo hung out with Stargirl everyone in Mica High School been ignoring him too.
ReplyDeleteI think that the primary conflict is men vs. society. One reason that it is men vs. society is when Leo starts to hang out with Stargirl, at the sometime the people in the book are giving Stargirl the silent treatment. So Leo happens to get involved in the silent treatment. These are some of the reasons that it is men vs. society.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. self.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict is man vs. self because Leo has to choose Stargirl or the student body, according to Archie. When Leo went to Stargirl's house he was pacing back in forth in front of it, and then went to go get pizza to stall the time. When Stargirl gave Leo the card he was too shy and embarressed to talk to her so he walked out of the lunch room really fast. These are the details that show that it the primary conflict is man vs. self.
I think the primary conflict is man vs society. A reason why I think its man vs society because everybody in Mica High is giving Leo and Stargirl the silent treatment. Another reason why I think it's man vs society because everyone makes fun of Stargirl because they call her unnormal. The last reason why I think it's man vs society is because when Stargirl was in the hotseat the jury and Hillary Kimble were throwing embarrassing questions at Stargirl.
ReplyDeleteThese are the reasons why I think it is man vs society.
I think that the primary conflicis Man vs. Self. One reason I think that is because he has to decide to hang out with her and get ingnored or to leave her. Another reason I think that is because Leo doesn't want to hurt Stargirl's feeling but he might have to to get his friends back. The last reason is that no one can help him with his problem and that he has to figure it out by himself. These are the reasons why the primary conflict is Man vs. Self.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict is man vs. society. In the book everyone is giving Leo and stargirl the silent treatment. Ever since Leo started hanging with stargirl he been getting blamed for stuff stargirl did that aren't even that bad, their just making a big deal out of it.
ReplyDeleteI think that the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society becuase people in her school hate her and are not talking to her. The other reason I think the conflict is man vs. society is becuase people are blaming Stargirl for their loss at the basketball game. Another reason that I think the conflict is man vs. society is becuase Leo likes Stargirl but everyone else hates her and he's afraid that everyone will ignore him to now and now Leo doesn't know if he should go out with Stargirl or to just stay away from Stargirl. These are the reasons why I think the conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteI think that the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society. Mica Area High School has decided to give Stargirl and Leo the silent treatment because they believe Stargirl is responsible for Mica losing the big game. I also think it is man vs. society becasue Leo is worried about the way the student body looks at and treats him when he is with Stargirl. My last thought to why I think the primary conflict is man vs. is because Leo wants Stargirl to be normal but he is afraid that if he tells her that, she wont like him and if he doesn't, he's scared that he'll lose his friends. These are the reasons why I think the conflict is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict is man vs self. Leo has to choose if he wants to be with Stargirl or if he wants to break up with Stargirl so everybody stops shunning him. Another reason why it is man vs self is because Leo has to make a big decision inside himself. Leo has to choose if he would rather be like everybody else or to be with Stargirl. Thats why it is man vs self
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society. I think this because Stargirl is getting the silent treatment from her school because they don't like her and they think that she is the reason they lost their basketball game. Another reason I think the conflict is man vs. society is that Leo won't consider that he has feelings for Stargirl because he's afraid that he will be picked on. The last reason I think the conflict is man vs. society is when Leo starts hanging out with Stargirl. He starts to get the silent treatment and that makes him feel uncomfortable because he doesn't like to be the center of attention. That's why I think the primary conflict of Stargirl is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteStargirl's primary conflict is man vs society. I think this is her conflict because when ever she passes through the hall way no one ever notices her. Another reason I say it is a man vs society conflict is because when Stargirl was cheering for the other team, that day the basketball team and other cheerleaders left her and the school janitor had to take her home. My third reason for saying that Stargirl is in a man vs society conflict is because when ever she is in the hallways she gets the silent treatment, every one parts their way to leave her alone.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflic in Stargirl is a man vs.self. It is a man vs. self problem because Leo has to pick between the student body or Stargirl. When he is trying to figure out if he goes to Stargirl's house or not so he got pizza and paced in front of her house. And when Leo got the card from Stargirl and is embarrassed to talk to her. These are the reasons why it is a man vs self conflict
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in "Stargirl" is man vs. society. I think this, because Stargirl is facing a problem, the silent treatment. Given to her by mostly everyone in school. I also think this because Leo is getting himself caught up in Stargirls problems and receiving the silent treatment as well. Another reason I think this is that when Hillary Kimble thought up that theory about how Stargirl was fake, Leo was almost convinced by Hillary. Giving this book a man vs. society conflict.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict of stargirl is man vs. society. I think it is man vs. society because the students at school are giving stargirl the silent treatment and no longer are friendly to her. I also think this because leo is also being ignorded by all the students at school which is the society.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict is man vs. society because everyone is giving Leo and Stargirl the silent treatment. Also ever since Leo started hanging out Stargirl everyone has changed towards Leo. My last reason why I think it's man vs. society because Stargirl is know being hated by the student body and know that everyone knows Leo is hanging with Stargirl everyone is against him.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict is man vs. Society because in the story everyone in the school everyone is Stargirl the silent treatment. Another reason is because at the basketball games Stargirl cheering for the other team. The final reason is because the student body is not accepting Stargirl like they used to and they are just ignoring her.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflit is man vs society. I think that because Leo is starting to be ignored, and is being starred at in the hallways, and the kids clear the way for him. At first he didn't notice it. It even seems like Kevin doesn't want to talk to him because noone else is socializing with him. The last reason I think it is man vs society is because in the beginning when Stargirl said hi to Leo he walked away fast away scared of what people would think.
ReplyDeletethe primary conflict in stargirl is man vs. self. with the protaganist as leo.i say its man vs. self because when leo went to archie for help archie had told leo to ask himself "thiers or hers"? leo had a difficlut time chooseing because he cared for both. another example is that when leo went to stargirls house he was having trouble aproching the house so he pasted back and forth in the street and got pizza before makeing his desicion. another example is when stargirl had talked to leo, leo didnt respond due to so much anxiety built up in him. so i belive its a man vs. self.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in stargirl is man vs self because leo likes stargirl but to the people at mica he is afraid to be seen with her. Leo is between what the people at mica and archy and stargirl the only one who dooes care back at leo. Stargirl wants leo to stop worying about what other people think about him and to act like here and ignore it and him to be himself.thare are some resons that I think the conflict in stargirl is man vs self.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. self. It is man vs. self because the main conflict is that Leo is trying to decide whether to choose Stargirl over popularity or popularity over Stargirl. An example of this is when Kevin told Leo that people were avoiding Stargirl at the lunch room and Leo became nervous. Also, When Archie called Leo a dolphin caught in a tuna net Leo was aware that the hatred of the student body was on Stargirl, not him, which symbolizes the choice he had to make between the student body and Stargirl. Lastly, when he was in his bed thinking at night, he specifically thought that he had made his choice but he was afraid to tell anyone.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is Man vs Society because more actions happen that "point" towards this rather than Man vs Self. Example: 1. Stargirl got hit with the tomato. 2. People ignore Leo and Stargirl. 3. People move away from Leo and Stargirl in the hallway.
ReplyDeleteI think that the primary conflict in Stargirl is Man vs Society. One reason for this is because the school is giving a silent treatment to Stargirl and because Leo stays with Stargirl, he is getting the silent treatment too. So, in a way the student body (society) is against them. The second reason I think is that the school blames Stargirl for loosing the basketball game and in this way Stargirl is battling the student body (society). The third reason I think is that the school doesn't appreciates the cheering that Stargirl did in the game and they kicked her out of the cheerleading team and another time the student body (society) is against Stargirl and Leo because he is with her and in some way they're battling the student body(society).
ReplyDeleteThese are the reasons that I think that Man vs Society is the primary conflict in Stargirl.
The primary conflict is Man vs Society because Stargirl is getting ignored by the whole school because she was rooting for the other team. Another reason why it is Man vs Society is because Leo was going home and a group of people called Leo starboy. The last reason why it is Man vs Society is because at one of the basketball games, Stargirl got hit with a tomato for rooting for the other team.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs self. I think that because Leo keeps having to battle himself to make decisions. One example is he had to make a hard decision about having Stargirl on hotseat. Another conflict was having the gutsto finaly talk to Stargirl in her driveway. The last man vs self conflict was when Leo has to choose between Stargirl and society. That is why I believe the conflict in Stargirl is man vs self.
ReplyDeleteThe main conflict in Stargirl is Man vs society. THe first main reason is Stargirl gets almost completally ignored during lunch. another main reason is the other cheerleaders and football team left stargirl at the high school of the other team on purpose so they could punish her for cheering for the other team. Finallly, if anyone else hangs out with Stargirl, like Leo, they will also be avioded so that means no one really wants to go near Stargirl. This is why the main conflict in Stargirl is Man vs Society.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs self. I think it is man vs self because when Archie asked Leo "Who's affection do you value more?" Leo can't decide and needs to think about it. Also it was a man vs self conflict when Leo had to decide whether to put Stargirl on hot seat or not. And another reason why I think it is a man vs self conflict is because Leo has to choose between the student body or Stargirl. That is why I think the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs self.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in stargirl is man vs. society. I think this because stargirl is getting the silent treatment by everyone which means eveyone is completely ignoring her. Another reason i think it is man vs society is what happned with her and cheerleading. How she got booed and then left behing. One last reason is because she is so much different then everyone else so they try to put her in her place but it never works. This why i think it is man vs. society.
ReplyDeleteThe main conflict in stargirl is man vs. self. Leo has to make a choice between stargirl and the students. He also had to get overbbeing scared to talk to stargirl. Another reason is beacuse he keeps arguing to himself on what decisions to make. He also had a tough time about having stargirl on hotseat.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is Man vs. Society. I think this because Stargirl is getting the silent treatment from her school, and leo is hanging out with Stargirl so he is getting it too. I also think this because Stargirl got kicked off the cheerleading team so noboddy wants anything to do with her. Last but not least when Stargirl and Leo walk together in the hall they both get ignored and not even a shoulder brushes there arms. So now Leo has to decide whos afection he cares about more Stargirl's or the schools (Society).
ReplyDeleteThe conflict in Stargirl is man vs.self. It is man vs. self because Loe ha sto make a big decision. I also think it is man vs self because in order for it to be man vs society Stargirl would have to be the protagonist because the school is mad at her,but since Leo is the protagonist then it can't be man vs society.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. self. I think that the primary conflict is man vs. self, because the current conflict is about that Leo has to make the decision of who does he value more: Stargirl or the student body and Leo is the one that has to decide if he wants to follow his heart or go with being a normal kid again. This is why I think the main conflict in Stargirl is man vs. self.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict in Stargirl is Man vs. Self. I defend this statement because at the time, Leo is in a stage of thinking and hesistation. Also, he went to Archie for advice on how to cope with Stargirl being given the silent treatment from the student body. They do not want to direct the silence at him but as long as he's with Stargirl, they will no matter who she's with. And he is unsure about whether to choose Stargirl over his peers because he does not like to be ignored or wants to. I also defend my statement because Leo is wrestling himself and his actions of his choosings. He wants to make the right decision, to make everything right. These are three reasons to defend my statement "The primary conflict in Stargirl is Man vs. Self".
ReplyDeleteThe main conflict in Stargirl is man vs society because they left her at the other school and someone threw a tomato at her and another reasons its man vs society is that they kicked her off the cheer leading team because they didn't like her and that's why its man vs society

I think the primary conflict is Man Vs Society.
ReplyDeleteFor example The whole student body is ignoring her. Another reason is that she got kicked of the cheerleading team. finally the people at the basketball game hit her in the face with a tomatoe
Sorry that I accidentally posted as K. I was in a rush. Honest mistake.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict is Man V.S. Society. This is because Stargirl is getting the silent treatment from the whole school. People also threw a tomatoe at her face, kicked her off the cheerleading team, and the Basketball and Cheerleading team at MAHS left her at a school and said it was an accident.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict is MAN V.S. SOCIETY. I think this because everybody in the entire school is spreading rumors, teasing Stargirl, and they kicked her off of the cheerleading team too. So Stargirl is representing the MAN and the people ignoring her represents the SOCIETY.
ReplyDeleteThe conflict of Stargirl is man vs self because Leo used to like Stargirl and when Leo went to to school everything had change. Also when Leo saw that everything had change that's because he is with Stargirl, and being with Stargirl that means that everybody is ignoring them. And when the game began Stargirl had been a cheerleader but the other cheerleaders stare at Stargirl really different because she was cheering for the other team. But the audience booed at her and Leo was upset to see Stargirl cheering for them. Also someone had throwed a ripe tomato to Stargirl's face and Leo thought that it was blood but it wasn't but still Stargirl likes Leo a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think its man vs self because leo has to choose between star girl an his school. When he went to go see Archie .Senor seguaro told him whos afection do you value most hers or theres . And that is why picted man vs self.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict is man vs. self because Leo is battling the force within himself hense the question "whos affection do you value more? hers? or theirs?" Leo has to choose between getting noticed in school and having friends, or his relationship with Stargirl. The shcool is mad at Stargirl but Leo feels like they're also aiming for him because he is Stargirls friend. The school got fed up with Stargirl how she was cheering for the other teams and then the shunning began but Leo feels that the school has no right to be mad at her since she was only being friendly and nice.
ReplyDeleteFor man vs self leo has to either stay with stargirl or like the people of the school and that is something dificult because he either wants stargirl to hate him or the school to just ignore him and he got a idea from archie
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict is Man vs. Self. One reson i think that man vs. is the conflict is because he thinks about stargirl and the school and he has to decide which one he wants
ReplyDeleteI think the conflict is man vs society.I think that because the school body is shunning Leo.The school is trying to get Leo to break down and stop going out with stargirl,so the shunning would stop. The man is Leo and the society is the school body.
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs.Puccio!Sorry on the list of people that you accidentally deleted I put K, somehow I forgot the rest of my name. I'm so sorry.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict in Stargirl is man vs. society. I have this opinion because Leo has to endure all of the "shunning" that all of the kids at school are directing at him. Leo has to face all of the people at school who are ignoring Stargirl and him. Leo might have to defend her and that is an example of man vs. society because he will be against most of the other kids at school.
ReplyDeleteI think the primary conflict is Man vs. Society.
ReplyDeleteThe primary conflict is this because the school body is ignoring the fact that Stargirl and Leo dont exist.Hilary Kimball also shows that while not ignoring them the school frowns upon them.
