Character Contrast
For this week's homework, you will select two characters from The Outsiders. You will write a contrast of these characters. Remember, contrast is how they are different. The contrast will be complete and will use specific details from the novel in a well-developed paragraph to show they ways you think the characters differ. Please do not rely on superficial differences, like: Ponyboy is 14 and Johnny is 16. Make sure the differences you use to develop your thinking is meaningful and insightful.

The two charcaters that I am contrasting are Soda and Darry. Soda is a fun person that can make anyone grin and is full of life. He is also a high school drop-out and works at a gas station with Steve. He is proud of being a greaser. Darry is a tuff and detrmined man. He is very educated and athletic (played football in high school). He had finished high school and wanted to go to college but he couldn`t have payed for it. He works as a construtction worker. The only thing that keeps Darry from being a Soc is Ponyboy, Sodapop, and money.
ReplyDeleteThe differences between Ponyboy and Dally is that during the fire in the church Ponyboy went inside to help the kids and Dally said that he would just let the kids die in the burning church. Another difference is Ponyboy and Dally is, Ponyboy and Dally is that Dally is a lot stronger then Ponyboy and could knock Ponyboy out in a hit in the back and Ponyboy can't.
ReplyDeleteTwo-Bit and Ponyboy are different characters. For example Two-Bit likes to fight and Ponyboy doesn't. Another example would be how Ponyboy likes to read and watch movies, while Two-Bit is usually at a party going drunk. Another example would be how Ponyboy wouldn't carry a switch blade but Two-Bit would. All of these differences show that Ponyboy is more calm and quiet while Two-Bit is outgoing.
ReplyDeleteI will be contrasting Ponyboy and Darry. Ponyboy is very different form Darry Ponyboy is much nicer then Darry. Darry is the strike one out of the cuirtes brothers (Soadpop, Ponyboy, and Darry.) Ponyboy reads and Darry doesn’t. Darry will rather work all day then read book or go to see a move. Darry is hard working. Sometimes ponyboy doesn’t use his brain to do things.
ReplyDeleteMy two characters are Darry and Dally. Darry is very educated, athletic, and determined. He is hard working; he was a high school graduate and a football star. Darry doesn’t belong in the greaser group but in the socs. He is not a soc because of his brother’s ponyboy, sodapop and difference in money. Dally on the other hand belongs to the greasers he enjoys fighting with the socs and isn’t as educated and determined as darry.When darry was in school studying practicly a soc dally was in jail at sge 10.
ReplyDeleteDarry and Ponyboy are different because pony is as tough as darry and he has different thoughts about fighting and darry likes fighting and is much tougher then ponyboy and ponyboy is not as protective as darry. also darry is not as smart as ponyboy. Thats the differences i think they have between each other.

Another way they're different is that Johnnys' dad hits on him and he likes it when old man hits on him, Also Ponyboys' dad cares about him and doesnt hit on him.The last way they're different is that Ponyboy dont hate the socs after he talked to the soc Randy and Johnny dont hate them because they beat him so badly.
ReplyDeleteIn the book The Outsiders Sodapop and Darry have many diffrences. One diffrences that they have is that Sodapop doesnt usually get mad at anything, like when Ponyboy came home really late one day Darry was the one screaming and yelling at Ponyboy while Sodapop just sat on the couch speaking calmly to Ponyboy. Another diffrence that they have is that Darry was very close to being a socs because he was on the football team and got a scholarship to a football college but he had to stay home and get a job since their parents died but while Sodapop wasnt really anything but a greaser all of his life. these diffrences are important because it shows how there personalities can be diffrent and also because how they react to the problems.

ReplyDeleteTwo characters from The Outsiders that differ are Two-Bit and Dally. They are different in many ways. One reason that contrasts Dally from Two-Bit is that Two-Bit has a mother that cares for him and he has a good relationship with her. Dally's parents are not really mentioned that much in the book but it's easy to see that they don't care much about him because of all the problems he's encountered. A second thing that makes Dally different from Two-bit is that Dally is described as hard and full of hatred. Two-Bit, however, is quite the opposite, he is funny and most of the time happy. He can make others laugh, while Dally can make someone feel scared.

My two characters are Johnny and Dally. Dally and Johnny are very diffrent from eachother because Dally if tough and Johnny isnt.
ReplyDeleteDally and Ponyboy contrast in many ways. One way is that Ponyboy is someone deep down that does not enjoy fighting. Dally on the other hand loves fighting. Also, Dally is 100% greaser. He loves fighting, Loves being rude and mean, and totally hates the socs. However, Ponyboy does not act like hes 100% greaser. He does not enjoy fights, He doesn't like being called a Greaser, he tries to be polite, and he understands the life of a soc. Lastley, Dally is very rude to girls. He doesn't give them respect, and he takes them as a big joke. Ponyboy however respects females, and avoids being rude to them. Therefore, one can see that Dally and Ponyboy contrast in many ways.
ReplyDeleteI am contasting the two greasers, Two-Bit and Darry. A big example of how they are different is their difference in seriosness.For example, Darry is raising Ponyboy, and Ponyboy is his first child that he raised, so he is serious and strict. On Two-Bit's side, all he really has to do is babysit Ponyboy, and he is very cool about it and will let Ponyboy do a lot of things that Darry won't let him do. Another example is their difference in resposibility. Darry has to work his butt off to support his family, while Two-Bit has a mom that is kind enough to take care of him(unlike Jhonny's parents). This makes me think about this story through Darry's eyes. It would make the story much darker and more sad. Even though Two-Bit has it rough, his sorrows and despairs are nothing close to Darry's.
ReplyDeleteI think Johnny and Dally have very different personalities. Johnny is more sensitive and caring with a brighter personality. Dally is hard and tough inside and out. Johnny is shown as a lost beaten puppy and Darry is viewed as rough and full of hatred.
ReplyDeleteThe two characters I pick are Sodapop and Ponyboy. I think that they are different because Sodapop dropped out of school because he didn't like and he also had to pay for the bills with Darry. I think Ponyboy is different from sodapop because Ponyboy likes school and loves to read and he didn't drop out. The reason why Sodapop has to help Darry with the bills is because Sodapop Darry and Ponyboys parents died in a car accident.
ReplyDeletePony Boy and Dally are different in many ways. One way that they are different is that Pony Boy is imaginative, Dally is cold. Another way in which they differ is that Dally is violent and likes fighting. Pony Boy is quite the opposite, he doesn't like to fight and doesn't see any good reason for it except for self defense. Finally, Dally uses bad language more than Pony Boy. He curses for no reason except to do it, however, Pony Boy doesn't do it nearly as much and usually just because everyone else is doing it. The differences in these characters could be reminiscent of the diverse in the way each was grew up.
ReplyDeleteTwo different characters from "The Outsiders" are Darry and Dally. They are different in many ways, for example, Darry and Dally are both tough, but in different ways. Dally is tough in a more emotional way, because he "shuts out" his feelings from other people, not showing almost any emotion. Meanwhile, Darry is tough in a more bodily way, meaning he can take a good amount of damage to his body. They are both sort of the same because they are both like this, but they are primarily different.
ReplyDeleteI think the two characters in "The Outsiders" that contrast the most are 2bit and Darry. I belive this because they are different as leaders, even though they are both the unofficial gang leaders. Darry is more strict and caring, that is show in almost every chapter when he yells at Pony for coming home late. 2Bit as a leader is more carefree, and would more than likely tell you to go rob a store for fun, just like he would. They are also different because Darry will not be a greaser all his life, and he isn't proud of being a greaser, but 2Bit likes being a greaser and will probably get nowhere in life. Darry shows that becasue he is always dre ssing nicer, and works hard to get were he wants to be. 2Bit shows that because he has no care for anything, he doesn't work or anything, just robs stores. Although he did care about Johnny when he died. 2Bit and Darry are very different by one bein sucessful and the other a careless greaser.

Darry talks to pongboy different from Jonny. Darry looks are differnt from Jonny. Also Darry is more biggier than Jonny.

Characters in The Outsiders by S.E Hinton have differences. Pony and Johnny are one of those character pairs. They are different in the fact that they each have their own people surrounding them. Johnny is surrounded by his parents who are both abusing of him. Pony is surrounded by his brothers who care for him and only wish the best for him. Another way that they are different is that they each have their own point of views. Pony is more of a sensual type of person. While Johnny is more of a straight forward, he believes what he sees type of guy. This is how Johnny and Pony are different.
ReplyDeleteIn the novel The Outsiders, Darry and Dally are very different. One way they are different is that Dally's life is made of violence and prison wich lead to dally getting shot. Darry on the other hand is going somewhere. He works as a house roofer and he provides for Soda and Pony.This shows that Darry will live a normal life unlike Dally. Dally was going nowere and his life ended short because of that.
ReplyDeleteTwo people from “The Outsiders” that I can contras are Soda pop and Darry I say soda and Darry because in the book he says how Soda understands him and try’s more than Darry does to listen. Darry treats him like he is a little kid, but soda he is so happy and understanding. For example pony boy says in the texts that Darry grows up to fast and soda never grows up, or when they’re getting ready to go to the rumble he says that Darry fights for pride and soda fight for fun. Soda is like the middle man understanding and happy but as for Darry he is like hard working responsible and really strict those are some reasons why soda pop and Darry can be contrast has to how they are different.

ReplyDeleteDallas Winston and Darry Curtis from "The Outsider" are very different.One of their differences is their way of thinking.Dallas Winston is the type of person that is not afraid of anythining and has grown in gangs his whole life.In the noble Ponyboy considers him as a cold,tougher meaner member of the gang.Dallas life experiences seems to have shosen the path for him.And in the other hand Darry Curtis way of thinking is very different for example, Darry is very responsible,he also has a job,and he got a collage degree.Darry is always thinking of his brothers future.Dallas and Darry are very defferent and that has been shown in the book.

Ponyboy and Darry are brothers but different in many ways. One way Ponyboy and Darry are different is because Darry is strong and muscular, and Ponyboy is the opposite of being strong and muscular. One other way Ponyboy and Darry are different is because Ponyboy likes to smoke a lot, and Darry does not. You can tell because, Darry doesn’t want Ponyboy to smoke but he does it anyways. One last way they are different is because Darry is more like his mom and Ponyboy is not like anyone in their family. Those are three of many ways they are different.
I think Darry and Sodapop are very different for a lot of ways. One way Darry and Sodapop differ is Darry is more into school than Soda is. Darry always wanted to go to college but he couldn't because he had to take care of his brothers when his parents died. Soda never really cared about school, and dropped out of it in High School. Darry and Soda are also different because Darry is very assertive and protective while Sodapop is very happy-go-lucky and carefree.

Darry and Dally are diffrent. The first reason is their childhood. Dally was a J.D. when he was ten. Meanwhile Darry was taken care of by his parents when he was ten. Another reason is their attitudes. Darry is hardworking and pretty honest. Dally on the other hand has a really long police record and the only thing he does honestly is ride horses. The final reason that they are diffrent is their futures. If Dally hadn't gotten shot when he did, he would've eventually. Darry is going somewhere though, as soon as he can. This is how Darry and Dally are diffrent.
ReplyDeleteIn "The Outsiders", even though there are characters that are similar, they are some characters that cannot be the same in certain ways. I think that Johnny and Dally can be contrasted from many different views. Firsty, Johnny and Dally both have different attributes that make them important to Ponyboy. For example, Dally tells Ponyboy to "Stay tough and hard" (Sort of like Dally) and Johnny tells Ponyboy to "Stay golden" (Like Johnny). Also, Johnny and Dally have MANY personality differences. For example, Dally likes to be tough and not let people get to him, even though as a result of Johnny's death he robs a grocery store and breaks down. Johnny on the other hand, keeps things cool and shows a nice spirit even though his parents have abused him.

When they were at the movie Dally was being a jerk to Cherry when dally left, the girls asked them if they would sit next to them so they can protect them. ReplyDeleteIn "The Outsiders" many characters compare and contrast. In the novel I especialy think the chareacter Johny and the character Dallas contrast in several ways. The character Johny tells Ponyboy to stay gold and inocent before he dies. Dally tells Pony boy to get hardend and to feel nothing before he dies.Another reason I think that Johny and Dally contrast is Johny dies as a hero and Dally dies a JD on the streets.that is why The characters Johny and Dally contrast.
ReplyDeleteIn the book The Outsiders the author has characters have same and different traits. Two characters that I feel are different are Dallas Winston and Ponyboy Curtis. One way I think that Dally and Ponyboy are different is how they deal with situations. Dally is more layback and doesn’t care when he’s in a big situation. Dallas shows he doesn’t care when he doesn’t even flinch when he is being put in jail. While Ponyboy is more always having to have always being safe when he is in a problem. Ponyboy shows him having to be safe when he runs away to Windrixville with Johnny so he doesn’t get put in jail. Another way the boys are different is that they show different ways of caring for people. Ponyboy ran (with Johnny) straight into the fire to save the 7 or 8 year old kids while Dallas just sat in his car. When Ponyboy was in the fire with Johnny they had to hand the kids to Dallas and he was screaming forget about them. Finally, Ponyboy was yanked out by Dallas but Johnny had gotten hurt and Dallas ran in there to get Johnny out. That shows that Ponyboy is willing to save anyone in help, but Dallas only ran in to save someone he knew (Johnny). The last reason I think that Dallas and Ponyboy are different is that Dallas had a very hard childhood. One way Dally’s childhood was hard was that he went to jail at the age of ten and his parents don’t care about him. Even though Ponyboy had somewhat of a hard life with his parents being dead, but he always had two brothers Sodapop and Darry. Ponyboy never went to jail unlike Dallas which made the boy two different characters.

Soda though knows that he is not going anywhere in life and doesn't seem to care, he is proud to be a greaser and a hood. That is how Soda and Ponyboy are different.
ReplyDeleteIn the book The Outsiders, the characters Sodapop Curtis and Steve Randle are different in many ways and contrast hugely. One way these characters contrast is that Sodapop has a kind, good heart, and loves Ponyboy. Steve is rugged, and he yelled at Ponyboy when Pony didn’t understand that Sodapop lost his girlfriend, Sandy because she was pregnant and she moved away to her Grandmother in Florida. Another way these two character contrast is that Steve is tough, and Sodapop is a happy go-lucky greaser. Steve once held off four opponents in a fight with a broken soda bottle. And Sodapop has too much charm to hurt a fly. A third contrast between these two characters is Steve wears his thick hair in a complicated arrangement of swirls, which shows how he’s complicated on tne inside. Soda wears his hair sweetly with dark-gold hair that combs back, long , silky and straight. This shows that Soda is clean and pristine and perfect. These two characters are best friends, but completely different.

One reason they are different is because Ponyboy is frightened by the police, and meanwhile Dally has a reputation with them and is proud of it. Another reason is while at the movies, Dallas was being rude to Cherry and Marcia, but Ponyboy was very understanding and knew how Cherry felt in every word she said.

I will contrast darry and dally. Darry is alot diferent from Dally. Darry is big and muscular and cares for alot of things. Dally couldent care somuch for himself.Darry also takes alot of responsibility for what he has done. Dally is very galent for what he does.
ReplyDeleteDally and Pony are different in many ways. One way they are different is that Dally likes to fight and Pony doesn't. I know that Dally likes to fight because he left the hospital when he was still injured just to fight in the rumble. I know Pony doesn't like to fight because before the rumble he asked himself, why he fights. His reason was only for self defense. Another way they are different is that Pony can calm his emotions but Dally can't. I know that Pony can calm his emotions because he didn't run out slamming against things and running away like Dally did when Johnny died. All Pony did was sit there very upset and think that Johnny was still alive. Another way Pony And Dally are different is that Pony is school smart and Dally is street smart. Pony gets excellent grades in school but he doesn't use his head in bad situations. Dally, on the other hand, is street smart because he knows how to save himself in a bad situation.

ReplyDeleteIn the book "the outsiders" , ponyboy and dally show some contrasts. 1 contrast that they show is, ponyboy dosent like to get into fights if their is no reason too .But dally will fight anyone for no reason. The last contrast that ponyboy and dally have is ,yes ponyboy and johnny where close but dally saw johnny as a brother, and when johnny had died dally was miserable. Loosing johnny was hard for all greasers but for dally it felt like he was losing his own life.

Also Darry cares about sports and grades but Soda could care less about it. Another way they are different is that Soda dropped out of school by choice but Darry didn't. Finally Soda has a best friend but Darry really doesn't have a best friend.

ReplyDeleteI am going to contrast Ponyboy and Johnny. One difference is that Ponyboy has real brothers that care for him and love him but Johnny only has his real mom and dad who don't care about him at all. Another difference is that Johhny seems like he depended on the "gang" more than Ponyboy who has bigger things planned and plans to branch away from the gang when he gets older. Those are a few differences between Johnny and Ponyboy.
ReplyDeleteJohnny and Dally are two very different characters. Johnny, for example doesn't talk much yet Dally is basically the leader of their outfit of the Greasers so he has to be a good speaker. Dally also liked to randomly jump socs, but Johnny didn't like violence and hated the fact that he had to kill the soc because he was attacking Ponyboy.

He wanted to be with Jhonny because he was the only thing he loved. Another thing that makes them different is their personalities. Dally chose to harden himself and not really care about anyone besides Jhonny. His parents didn't care for him so he just didn't think about other people's feelings. Jhonny was very quiet and he was also hardened but he cared for the whole gang. Jhonny was forced to be hardened because his parents beat him and he got jumped by socs. Dally and Jhonny were two very different boys who found a great bound.
ReplyDeleteIn The Novel "The Outsiders" each character has very different traits. The two character I will be contrasting are Sodapop and Darry. One difference between these two character's is that Soda is more passive and calm due to less obstacles in his life. Darry is hard and tough due to the experiences in his life e.g him stepping up as the gaurdian of the family. Another difference is that Soda is more understanding than Darry. Darry is not so understanding because he is very stressed about the gang, his jobs, and pony's as well as his future. The final constrast I will make between these two characters is that Darry is more wise that Soda. Darry's decisions may be harsh but they are all for the good of the gang and his family.

Pony boy likes to go to school and get good grades, where Dally doesn't go to school and is not so smart. also Pony boy doesn't like to fight and has no reason to and isn't to good at it when he does. Dally loves to get into fights and he has a reason to like fights. Finally Pony boy and Dally are different because Dally likes being a greaser and Pony boy doesn't.
ReplyDeletePonyboy and Dally are different.One difference is that Ponyboy is golden and Dally isn't.Golden means young and innocent, and Dally isn't.Dally isn't golden because he is a criminal but Ponyboy is nothing like him.Ponyboy cares about other people and can understand them.
ReplyDeleteTheir are three kinds of contrasts between Twobit and Ponyboy. One difference between them is that they both fight for different reasons. When Ponyboy asked each individual that belonged to the Greasers what they fought for, Twobit replied for conformity and Ponyboy doesn't fight for anything. Another difference is that Ponyboy has a more sensitive side then Twobit. In The Outsiders we learned that he loved watching sunsets, he told this to Cherry. The final contrast between Twobit and Ponyboy is that Ponyboy is going to get somewhere in life. Ponyboy said that he doesn't want to be a hood all his life like Tim Shepard or Dally, he wants to get a job and move somewhere else. These are some contrasts between Twobit and Ponyboy.
ReplyDeleteIn the novel "The Outsiders", characters differ from one another. Two characters that are different from each other in some ways are Ponyboy and Sodapop. One way they are different from each other is that Ponyboy is more calm than Sodapop is. Ponyboy enjoys doing things such as reading books and watching movies. Sodapop cannot do these things due to the fact that he cannot sit down and be still for that long. Another way that Ponyboy and Sodapop are different is how they feel. Ponyboy feels more than Sodapop does. Ponyboy does like to hunt nor fight. He believes that the only good reason for fighting is for self defense. Sodapop is opposite of Ponyboy in this difference. Sodapop enjoys hunting and likes to fight too. He enjoys that thrill that you get when fighting.
ReplyDeleteIn the book The Outsiders some characters are different.For example Dally and Pony are very different.One way the two are different is that Dally hides his feelings and puts on a hard front,while Pony shows every feeling he has.Another way the two characters are different is that Dally wouldn't go help someone even if he was watching them die like during the fire Dally tried to hold Pony and Johnny back while they immediately wanted to go in and save the kids.One final way the two are different is that Dally grew up with out a family so he doesn't understand the importance of it. While Pony on the other hand immediately missed Soda after the first night of being away.That is how these two characters are different.

ReplyDeleteThe two characters I pick are Ponyboy and Soda. One difference is that Pony is planing to finsh school and Soda droped out. Another difference that these characters have are that Soda likes to fight and Ponyboy does'nt. Another difference that Soda and Ponyboy have is that Soda had a girl friend(before she moved) and Pony has never had a girl friend(at least not in the book. One last difference is that Ponyboy and Soda is that Pony was getting chased by the cops and Soda was never chsed by cops.
ReplyDeleteJohnny and Twobit contrast in many ways. One way the contrast is, Johnny is very quiet and doesn't like to talk much. (When he does it is usualy to Ponyboy) Twobit is loud and always happy. For example, when they won the rumble he way all happy and his face was really beat up a lot. Another way they contrast is Johnny can understand what Ponyboy is trying to say about the sunsets. He was talking to Pony anout them in the church before it burned down. Ponyboy actually said that he couldn't talk to anyone else about it.
ReplyDeleteThe two characters I chose to contrast are Darry and Sodapop . One reason Darry and Sodapop are different is that Darry is very responsible and Sodapop isn't. Darry is only 20 years old and he's always working. Sodapop is always carefree and never has anything does anything. Another reason they are different is that Soda always wants to fight and get into trouble and Darry only gets into fights when his brothers are in one so he can stick up for Ponyboy and Soda.
ReplyDeleteCharacter Darry, and the sheperd boys are different, these characters are different because, like Ponyboy said, "they will be hoods forever, Darry's going somewere. Dallys also more independent then they are. The shepered boys will die hoods. Dally will die independent and not a hood.
ReplyDeleteTwo characters that are different are Sodapop and Two Bit. Soda is different from Two Bit because he is an individual. Two Bit specifically said he fights becauseone else does. Soda is an individual because he has a breakfast noone else does. They are similar because they both are greasers.

ReplyDeleteJohnny and Bob are two very different characters. Other than Johnny being a greaser and Bob being a soc, at home, Bob from what Randy said, was a kid that was spoiled rotten by his parents. He got whatever he wanted except for one thing. All he wanted was a set of rules to follow and some discipline. Nothing more. Johnny on the other hand, grew up in a house where his parents beat him and thought so negative about him. He said in the story he liked it when his father hit him because he felt that was the only time he aknoweldged him.
ReplyDeleteJohnny and Bob are different in many ways. One way they are different is that Bob is always drunk and trying to pick a fight while Johnny on the other hand doesn't like fighting. Another way Johnny and Bob are different is by there parents. Bob's parents always blame themselves when Bob comes home drunk and that shows that they care for him but let him do whatever he wants. Johnny's parents just dont care for him. For example, he slept in the park and said his parents don't care if he comes home or not. Basically Bob's parents cared more for him then Johnny's did for Johnny. A final way Johnny and Bob are different is that Johnny is a greaser and Bob is a Soc. That is how Bob and Johnny are different.
